Registration is not identification

Looking for an AHPRA ID card? Start with the public register

Ahpra directs the public to its official register for current practitioner registration information. A HealthID card is a separate, privately issued way to present selected details—it is not an AHPRA card or an official identity document.

Ask the right question

Registration and identity are different checks

A person may be listed on an official register without carrying a regulator-issued photo card. Confirming the registration entry and confirming the person presenting themselves are related, but distinct, tasks.

Question one

Is this practitioner currently registered?

Search the official Ahpra public register and read the current entry, including any conditions or other information relevant to your decision.

Question two

Is this the person expected?

Compare the person with the identification, booking, employment or service information required by your organisation or circumstances.

Side by side

The official register and HealthID serve different purposes

Official source

Ahpra public register

Authority
Maintained by Ahpra and the National Boards.
Purpose
Shows the official public registration entry available when you search.
Use it for
A current registration check and any details relevant to your decision.

Private service

HealthID card

Authority
Issued by HealthID, not by AHPRA or government.
Purpose
Presents selected professional information by an active QR code or link.
Use it for
A convenient first review before completing the checks your decision requires.

Use them together

A practical three-part check

No logo, badge or “verified” label should collapse these separate steps into one.

  1. Review the shared card

Check that the HealthID card is active and compare its displayed name, photograph, profession and credential information.

  2. Search the official register

Use the practitioner’s name or registration number to find and read the current Ahpra public entry.

  3. Complete identity checks

Apply the photo identification, employment, onboarding or service checks required for the situation.

Read the date, not just the label

A HealthID status is last reviewed, not real-time official verification

Registration circumstances can change after HealthID reviews a record. HealthID is not affiliated with, endorsed by or part of AHPRA. For a current decision, always use the official register and your usual due-diligence process.
