Verifier guide

How to verify a healthcare practitioner with HealthID

Ask the practitioner for an active HealthID QR code or verification link. Open it in your browser, check that the card is active, then review the information available at that card’s disclosure level.

The process

Start with the practitioner, not a directory search

HealthID is not a national practitioner register or a public search directory. A HealthID card is presented by the practitioner as a QR code or link when they want someone to review their credential information.

  1. Open the card

Scan the QR code with a phone camera or open the link supplied by the practitioner. The verification page opens in a web browser.

  2. Check its state

Confirm that HealthID shows the card as active. Expired or revoked cards no longer provide a current verification result.

  3. Review what is shown

Compare the practitioner details and read each credential’s status and expiry date. The card type determines how much additional information is available.

What to review on the card

Read the page as a record of what HealthID is showing at that moment.

  • Practitioner details: compare the displayed name, photograph and profession with the person presenting the card.
  • Credential status: distinguish verified, pending and expired records rather than treating every listed credential as verified.
  • Expiry dates: check the date shown for each relevant credential and apply your organisation’s normal requirements.
  • Card type: Basic cards intentionally omit numbers and contact details; absence from a Basic card is not proof that the information does not exist.

Disclosure levels

Basic, Detailed and Complete cards share different information

The practitioner selects a card type before sharing it. A more detailed card provides more information to anyone who obtains the active link—it does not represent a higher verification status.

Lowest disclosure

Basic

Shows the practitioner’s name, profession, photo and qualifications, together with credential status and expiry information.

Does not add credential numbers or public contact details.

Expanded details

Detailed

Adds credential numbers and the practitioner’s public contact details to the information available on a Basic card.

Does not provide links to uploaded supporting documents.

Document access

Complete

Adds temporary access to uploaded supporting documents, including identity documents when the relevant file is available.

Use document access only for the check the practitioner intended.

Final check

Confirm current registration with the official source

HealthID reflects credential status at the time of its last review. For a current registration decision, check the relevant official public register and complete your usual identity, employment and credentialing checks. HealthID does not replace those obligations.
